Hotel Schloss Velden * in Austria is one of Europe's most respected hotels. Originally a summer residence built in 1603, it was converted into a hotel in the 19th century, offering elegant accommodation and spectacular views over the Wörthersee. Today, it has 105 guest rooms offering a variety of luxuries - including state-of-the-art communications.

The hotel decided to undergo some extensive - and ambitious - renovation work. Its aim was to define a new standard of luxury hotel, combining elegant room design with the very latest in technology and communications infrastructures.

It was vital that the chosen communications solution was stable, sustainable, and easy to maintain and use. It also needed to be scalable, in order that the hotel could easily migrate to the latest technology at any time.

Nortel Solution

Hotel Schloss Velden chose a highly reliable Nortel Gigabit Ethernet LAN, based upon the Nortel Communication Server 1000 , the Nortel Application Gateway 2000 , and Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600s at the core. Switches from the Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5500 portfolio, installed for the rooms, support IP voice, data and IP TV services throughout the building. In addition, more than 100 Nortel WLAN Access Point 2330s provide efficient wireless access to voice and internet anywhere in the hotel. The Nortel IP Phone 2007 with its colour touchscreen offers all guests a user-friendly interface for the hotel's 'Infotainment' system.
